SeltaSquare Registers Patent for Intelligent Pharmacovigilance Platform

SeltaSquare Co., Ltd. (CEO: Shin Min-kyung), an AI-based pharmacovigilance (PV) specialist company, has announced the domestic registration of a patent enabling users to easily carry out AI-driven pharmacovigilance tasks.


The patent is titled "Method and Apparatus for Providing an Intelligent Pharmacovigilance Platform," and the company has also filed international patent applications (PCT) in the United States, Europe, China, and other countries.


According to the company, this patent offers a new direction for conventional, standardized pharmacovigilance processes and holds significant market potential. The pharmaceutical industry must comply with guidelines issued by the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH) across all areas, including manufacturing and clinical trials.


Pharmaceutical companies are required to conduct clinical trials to verify the efficacy and side effects of new drugs during their development, manufacturing, and commercialization phases, and must report the results to regulatory authorities. Even after a drug is placed on the market, companies must continuously ensure its safety through complex PV operations.


Since pharmacovigilance regulations began tightening in Europe in 2012, the compliance burden on pharmaceutical companies has grown considerably. The company explains that the need for an intelligent pharmacovigilance platform is increasing, given that PV work involves collecting diverse datasets and interpreting and reviewing unstructured data — tasks that require enormous human resources and financial investment.


SeltaSquare stated: "The intelligent pharmacovigilance platform provides a method, apparatus, and platform for conducting pharmacovigilance in a scientific and systematic manner based on AI algorithms." The company also noted that it aims to launch a Light version of its AI patent-based PV platform before the end of this year.
