SeltaSquare, a startup that developed an AI-based automated platform for monitoring drug adverse events, has won the Grand Prize at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' 25th Women's Startup Competition. The competition is a contest for (prospective) women entrepreneurs aimed at promoting technology-based startups with strong ideas and business concepts. It is hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and organized by the Women's Enterprise Support Center.
This year's competition saw 1,003 teams compete for 40 spots, resulting in a 25-to-1 competition ratio. The Ministry noted that 798 of the participating teams — representing 79.6% — were from technology-based startup sectors.
SeltaSquare claimed the Grand Prize. The company's AI-based drug adverse event monitoring platform automates the pharmacovigilance procedures of pharmaceutical companies, reducing the personnel and time required for monitoring, data entry, and analysis. SeltaSquare was founded in 2021 by CEO Shin Min-kyung, who previously worked at pharmaceutical companies including Celltrion Pharm and Daewoong Pharmaceutical.
The Excellence Award went to JamJam Therapeutics, which developed an AR (Augmented Reality) game solution for upper limb rehabilitation therapy, and EX Healthcare, which developed miRNA (microRNA) technology-based healthcare products. The Merit Award was presented to Biobrix, Cleanchain, and Jungnammi Group, while the Encouragement Award went to Quester, Milepost, EasyTask, and Romancive. An additional 30-plus companies, including AP Green, received the Women's Enterprise Support Center Chairman's Award.
All award recipients will receive prizes along with support through an accelerating program covering commercialization assistance, investment attraction, networking, and K-Startup main round coaching. Companies seeking to pursue exports or attract overseas investment will also receive specialist consulting. The top 26 teams among the award recipients will be given automatic entry into the Challenge K-Startup unified main round, scheduled for September.
Deputy Minister of SMEs and Startups Oh Ki-woong stated: "We will actively support women-led companies so that they can compete in international markets as well, by making the most of their strengths — attention to detail and resilience."
