SeltaSquare (CEO: Shin Min-kyung), an AI-based pharmacovigilance (PV) specialist company, has officially launched a project with the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) to develop a Korean-language version of the pharmacovigilance glossary.

On June 30th, SeltaSquare announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CIOMS for the development of a Korean version of the "CIOMS Cumulative Pharmacovigilance Glossary, with a focus on Pharmacovigilance." CIOMS is an international non-governmental, non-profit organization jointly established by the WHO and UNESCO in 1949, with a mission to advance public health through guidance on health research and policy — including ethics, medicinal product development, and safety.

CIOMS plays a leading role in the field of pharmacovigilance — the activities involved in evaluating and monitoring drug safety. It has continuously published guidelines that have served as the foundation for international standards since the 1970s. Furthermore, since 2021, CIOMS has been publishing and freely distributing the CIOMS PV Glossary, which contains the terms and definitions used in the pharmacovigilance field.

SeltaSquare stated that by developing a Korean version of the CIOMS PV Glossary in partnership with CIOMS, it aims to contribute to the growth of the domestic pharmacovigilance market. As Korea's first AI-based PV specialist company, SeltaSquare is driving transformation across pharmacovigilance through a platform that applies advanced AI and IT technology to enhance efficiency and data accuracy. At the core of this mission is a team of pharmacovigilance experts with hands-on experience across the full drug development lifecycle, working together to achieve a higher standard of drug safety management.

The project will be conducted directly between SeltaSquare's PV experts and CIOMS, with plans to make the completed Korean version freely available online. SeltaSquare expects this initiative to contribute to a deeper understanding of pharmacovigilance-related terms and concepts.

CEO Shin Min-kyung stated: "As the importance of drug safety management is increasingly emphasized, regulatory authorities are requiring pharmaceutical companies to go beyond simple post-marketing adverse event reporting and implement proactive risk management across the full product lifecycle — the mandatory submission of Development Safety Update Reports (DSURs) is one such measure. While regulations are continuously tightening, the number of qualified PV professionals remains far from sufficient to meet compliance demands, and existing personnel also require further learning and training to implement more advanced pharmacovigilance practices."
